Venomous Vixens

In Beauty on October 25, 2010 at 4:55 pm

Just in time for Halloween, MAC cosmetics has delighted us again with our favorite Disney characters in their Venomous Villains cosmetic line. Be inspired on All Hallows Eve (and so forth) by the most infamous, frosty leading characters: The incomparable Cruella De Vil and Snow White’s Evil Queen are dazzlingly devilish; Sleeping Beauty’s Maleficent and The Princess and the Frog’s DR. FACILIER. Bad has never looked so good.

Who’s the fairest one of all? Four separate mini-collections, in haute animated couture. Uniquely designed iconic packaging you will kill for, cunning characters and bedeviled beauties that are so alluring, you can’t help but wonder what it would be like to be one!

Brow Bone Highlights

In Beauty on August 27, 2010 at 1:57 pm

I love the look for sun kissed skin (real or applied) and a hint of shimmer dancing on the eyebrow bone. This cosmetic enhancement makes your whole face glow and your eyes look refreshed and happy. Typically, this shimmer on the eyebrow only exists in nature when you are extremely sweaty or you have oily eyebrow bones…so to recreate this look, we need some makeup help.

I have been a long time user of MAC eyeshadows and found that when applied lightly, eye shadow works just great on the brow bone, corner of the eye and even on the apples of the cheeks. My preference is MAC’s White Frost which is a white shadow with an icy shimmer. However, you need to test different shades to see what looks best with your coloring.

Here are some of the industry favorites (from MAC) to highlight the brow bone:

Cool Highlights: White Frost, Forgery, Crystal Avalanche, Filament, Mylar, Yogurt, Electra, Pincurl, Seedy Pearl

Warm Highlights: Vapour, Vanilla, Blanc Type, Shroom, Dazzlelight, Phloof!, Naked Lunch, Vex, Sugarshot, Brule, Tete-a-Tint, Jest, Malt, Ricepaper, Bisque, Flip, Bamboo, Honesty, Samoa Silk, Gleam, All That Glitters, Retrospeck, Wedge, Woodwinked, Soft Brown, Kid, Honey Lust

Falsies

Ah…the power of the eyes. They say eyes are the windows to the souls and what better way to have some serious window-dressing than False Eyelashes! Adding a little more flutter to your eyes can add a whole new look to you. Long eyelashes (if you aren’t blessed with them by the man upstairs) make your eyes look bigger, make you feel like a 40’s starlet, and can transform you into a coy and flirtatious goddess. MAC Cosmetics makes perfect eyelashes that will blend in with your natural set or stand out with rhinestones. Offering 48 different types of false eyelashes, MAC really gives you a buffet of eye decoration to feast on.

False eyelashes will typically last 8 – 12 hours (just don’t tug at them) and you apply them with a safe adhesive along your lash line. Watch this amazing video by Sephora that shows you how to apply them! How to Apply False Eyelashes

Baby Blues

In Beauty on February 2, 2010 at 4:44 pm

Blue Eye Shadow has never been a “go-to” purchase for me (being that I have brown eyes and fear the disco look)…until recently. Upon browsing (and doing damage to my wallet) at a MAC Cosmetics store, I came across a blue eyeliner that literally made my eyes pop. Playing around, I decided to rim my brown eyes with MAC’s Technakohl Liner in Smooth Blue. Looking in the mirror, my brown eyes looked bigger, richer and more prominent on my face…and the blue eyeliner didn’t overwhelm or look gawdy. My girlfriends agreed…this liner is a must buy!

Smooth Blue is described as a ocean blue with frost and it looks good on any eye color. On blue green eyes, it subtly brings out the green; on hazel eyes, it draws out the honey and caramel; and on brown eyes, it brings out the rich, purple undertones. Gorgeous!
