You’ve Lost It

Lose it iPhone App

iPhone? check. Dozens of downloaded apps? check. Fit into skinny jeans? Ugh.

At one point or another, we have all wanted to lose those 5 (or more) elusive pounds where no matter what diet we’ve attempted (and that’s been a lot…hello lemon water and cayenne pepper), they just don’t work. We’ve also all heard the rhetoric of the “lifestyle” change. Double ugh. How on earth am I supposed to change my lifestyle when I’m a slave to my taste buds?

Released in Nov. ’08, The iPhone app Lose it!, which has gained a strong following (see NYTimes article), allows you set goals and establish a daily calorie budget that enables you to meet them. The Lose it! puts you one step closer to that lifestyle change because you stay on track each day by recording your food and exercise. The interface is clean, easy to use and allows you to (begrudgingly) tap in everything you eat (it has over 450,000 food items in its database).

Best part…it’s free!

Get it in the iTunes App Store or Apptism and start tracking your way into your skinny jeans!

Sun Worshiper’s Best Friend

UV Monkey

Ok…We all know that a sun-kissed tan makes us feel more attractive, skinnier, refreshed and in general…better looking. We also know that logging too many hours in the sun will have us most definitely looking like the tanorexic Magda (think leathery, over tanned skin) from “There’s something about Mary”. Let’s blame that evil Ultraviolet light for making us cower underneath a large brimmed hat and slather on SPF 75…

However, if you want to spend a day at the beach or hiking in the mountains, there is no avoiding the sun and just short of wearing a ski mask and space suit…how do we know if the evil UV is getting to us?

In comes the UV Monkey. This magical little device attaches to our keyring and lets us know at what levels the sun is kicking off wrinkle-inducing (not to mention cancer causing) UV rays! The UV Monkey will assist you by checking UV levels so that you know when to protect your skin. This helpful device is especially necessary for the lil ones because we all know that permanent skin damage from too much sun often is done before age 18.

Once exposed to sunlight, the center will change to different shades of purple to indicate increasing levels of UV light (darker means higher level of UV). The UV Monkey can indicate 4 different ranges of the UV Index (Index 1-2, Index 3-5, Index 6-8, Index 9-11).

Au revoir UV fear. Hello UV Monkey!

Grass Charging Station

If you’re like me, you probably consider your blackberry or iPhone part of your daily attire. Without it…we are literally naked. And what comes from this wireless obsession is ironically, wires. I have chargers strung over every possible part of my house…just to ensure I never run out of juice for my phone(s) and am forever connected.

Here is a really cute, out-of-the-box(wires) way to keep your electonics juiced up and your countertops wire free! Think Jungle!

Death to the Polaroid

In Electronics on August 21, 2009 at 3:41 pm

Urban Outfitters Polaroids

For those of you who don’t know anything about The Impossible Project (I had no clue), this organization basically has set is sights on re-inventing the polariod analog product offering into a global digital manufacturer. Basically, Polaroid stopped production on the classic “instant” film in 2008, and former Polaroid employees are trying in vein to save the iconic camera.

The Impossible Project acquired the last of Polaroid’s instant film and camera kits and is going to sell them via Urban Outfitters, starting today, August 21st, 2009. Of course, it’s deadstock and very limited edition, and you’ll have to go to one of the physical stores to get the film or kits.

Want a piece of history? Go to the nearest Urban Outfitters and scoop up the last remaining polaroid film inserts on earth!

BTW- This means no more taking polaroids of your shoes and stapling the polaroid to the shoe box in your closet. OR taking polaroids of yourfits to see how they look. Gasp I guess that’s what digi cameras are for….

Cost: Probably not that much…but priceless for your grandkids to have fun with!

High Fashion Meets High Tech

Vivienne Tam Netbook

Vivienne Tam’s cult-like “China Chic” designs have been on the cutting edge of fashion for over a decade. Her brocade and silk pieces epitomize luxury and opulence.

Recently Tam has lent her luxe design skills to HP by designing the most stylish netbook I have seen in a while: The Vivienne Tam Edition HP Mini! Branded as a “Digital Clutch” this fully loaded computer is the perfect accessory at less than 3 lbs and a mere 1″ thin.

It features a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor (much acclaimed for high speed procesing), 1 GB RAM, 60 GB Hard Drive, XP Home and a 3 Cell Battery- which will keep you working or shopping into the wee hours of the night.

In keeping with her China Chic roots, Vivienne chose bright peonies in shades of violet and red to not only be beautiful but symbolic as well. The bright peony blooms symbolize good fortune and prosperity, something we could all use a little more of!

In true fashion sense- there is a matching mouse, carrying case and scarf- for the fashionista in all of us. This computer was featured during the VT Spring 2009 Runway Show and is sure to be scooped up by fashion forward and tech savvy users.

Powerful, Portable and Pink!

In Beauty, Electronics on July 30, 2009 at 2:37 pm

Babyliss Mighty Mini

As an obsessive compulsive hair straightener, I know what it is like to leave the house looking great, only to have humidity leave you crying in the mirror. I thought there was no convenient touch up and searched high and low for powerful hairsprays to fight the frizz. That is until I found the amazing BaByliss PRO Mighty Mini PINK 6-inch Straightening Iron!

This tiny (only 6 inches!) and powerful iron heats up in 30 seconds and is ceramic plated to protect the follicles. It is so convenient it fits in a purse or carry on bag. Although it does not cover as much hair area as a full sized iron, the Mighty Mini is great for touch ups, travel straightening and getting the hard to reach bangs.

BaByliss used to be the crimping iron authority (a fate I am sure they’d like me to forget). However, in the last few years they have really stepped up their game and are among the elite few brands that professionals use.

Cost: $30.00

Scoop: I happen to grab mine at my local TJ Maxx for $19.99 so be sure to check there as well!

I love this thing.  I really could care less if it had any function at all, but thankfully it does!

Multi USB hubs are super useful if you find yourself charging your phone, camera and other devices via USB.

Also- tulips are so in right now, so stop dreaming of that Holland Vacation and bring it to your desk.

Many of us nowadays sit in a cube if front of a computer ALL DAY. Adding a little excitement to the mundane can make all the difference- behold these amazing Swarovski USB drives.  There is some serious sparkle meets function going on here. These 1 GB drives hold the equivalent to 250 songs and you know, work files and stuff.

Yes, they are more expensive than standard USB drives, but when was the last time your jewelry came in handy at Kinko’s on a business trip? You can also get Swarovski crusted earbuds and Bluetooth® headsets! Super cute!
