Fatten Up

In Beauty on May 3, 2011 at 11:17 am

Wearing thin? Bumble and bumble’s thickening serum is the right way to thicken up. This nightly, leave-in treatment fattens and fortifies over time for thicker, stronger strands and fuller hair (really).

Who: Those wearing thin, the fine, and the ultra-fine.

When: Nightly. Twice-daily for the ultra-fine.

How: Before bed, pump serum into palms 2 or 3 times; work into roots and through damp or dry hair. Longer hair types should pump again and be sure to smooth through ends.

Buy it: Bumble and bumble
Cost: $27.00

Cha Cha Tint

In Beauty on April 28, 2011 at 7:03 pm

Benefit’s latest liquid lip and cheek stain isn’t out until June, but here’s a sneak peek at Chachatint. Like its predecessors, Benetint and Posietint, Chachatint is a liquid stain applied with a brush. This time, though, the hue is a slightly shimmery mango; it’s not quite coral, but closer to the orange family than its pink and red sister tints.

Buy It: Benefit (in June)
Cost: $29.00

Shattered Polish

In Beauty on April 20, 2011 at 12:03 pm

OPI revolutionized nail polish last year when the lacquer company released its first Shatter top coat in black. The polish is unique because it leaves a crackled, two-texture finish when painted on a nail bed, and manicure lovers enjoyed coming up with funky color combinations to paint the black Shatter over a rainbow of hues. Now… Shatter is about to get even better. OPI just announced that it will release more Shatter shades! Blue, Navy, and Turquoise make up an oceanic-inspired Shatter collection, and Serena Williams’ new Glam Slam! collection will include Shatter in both red and white. All five Shatters, which you can see in the gallery, hit stores May 1st for $8.50 per bottle.

Wonderlust

In Beauty on April 18, 2011 at 8:58 am

Raved about by top fashion editors and beauty bloggers, this press-obsessed wonder product is becoming a cult classic. Wonderlust is an omega rich hair tonic that provides maximum shine, hair color illumination and condition to all types of hair (especially color treated). Created with Kelly Van Gogh’s signature fragrance of jasmine and rose.

Wonderlust is a multi-tasking hair tonic that acts as a detangler, a light leave-in conditioner, a thermal (styling) heat protector, a UV protector and a pH balancer. It is the only styling product you need for gorgeous, healthy and manageable hair. Packed with light reflecting mica shine minerals, Wonderlust is like a disco ball for your hair. Your hair will never look shinier and your color will never look more illuminated.

HOW TO USE IT: Spray 5-10 times (depending on hair length and thickness) on clean, damp hair before combing and then blow dry and style as usual.

Feathers aren’t just for birds

In Beauty, Fashion on April 4, 2011 at 4:53 pm

This spring, you hair can go the birds. Literally. According to Jess Zaino, uber cool style blogger at Glamour, weaving in feathers to your hair are all the rage in SoCal, and the trend is spreading its wingspan all over the country.

It started with Steven Tyler, of all places, seen below rocking feathers on American Idol.

So how did this trend begin? Malibu sisters started Fine Feather Heads to embrace their bomhemian lifestyle. What began as simple hair extensions, blossomed into braiding 100 percent all-natural bird feathers into hair. Now it’s a national business, selling as far as Florida and New York City.

According to Fine Feather Heads’ Facebook page, they use only the “highest quality REAL feathers from farm raised birds… in a variety of colors from blue, red, even wild hot pinks and purples to natural colors like golden-rod and tigers-eye.

Installation takes less than a couple minutes, with no damage to hair. And, they can be brushed, blow-dried, straightened and curled!

Buy It: Fine Feather Heads
Cost: $20 each (or $75 for 10 packs or more)

Deep Renewal

In Beauty on March 30, 2011 at 9:45 am

The other day my dry, cracked lips were looking for a savior. Even though I constantly wear lip gloss, lipstick, or some sort of lip lubricant, I always seem to be reapplying (every 15 minutes) out of sheer annoyance of my dry lips. In my desperate attempt to find something to sooth my lips, I came across a new package of Blistex Deep Renewal. Flashing back to my middle school days when I wore blistex (and hated it), I almost passed this little tube by. Almost. And thank goodness I didn’t. After applying the lip balm to my lips they were immediately soothed but that’s not what impressed me. It was an hour after applying the lip balm that I noticed my lips were moist and totally smooth — no dry, cracked ridges. I am hooked now. In between my daily lip gloss applications, I am using Deep Renewal and my lips have never looked better! They are smoother, shinier, less dry, and almost a little pinker (if that’s possible).

Deep Renewal is the anti-aging lip treatment that’s clinically-proven to reduce visible signs of aging, deliver superb moisturization, and promote lasting lip health and vitality with consistent use. It also contains Coenzyme Q-10…which is the gold standard for moisturization and overall revitalization.

If your lips are like mine — in constant need of moisture– I highly suggest you check this stuff out!

Golden Goddess

In Beauty on March 14, 2011 at 9:58 am

The last couple of weeks my friends and colleagues have been commenting on the tan glow I’ve been sporting – asking me if I’m spending more time in the sun or hitting up the spray tanning booth. Much to their surprise I haven’t been logging hours under the sun or at the local tannery, I’ve been using Jergens Natural Glow Healthy Complexion Daily Facial Moisturizer. This may seem counterintuitive for a 30 year old to be using a non-anti-aging face cream but because of the glowing tan I now own, I’m really digging it. It also has an SPF 20 in it so I feel good about the basic wrinkle protection.

Jergens came out with their Natural Glow Moisturizer years ago and I never really gave it a second thought but now that I am using it daily, I am loving the results! This moisturizer gradually creates fabulous, natural-looking color with a subtle, skin-darkening complex. Specially formulated for your face and recommended by The Skin Cancer Foundation, this advanced SPF 20 anti-aging formula contains broad-spectrum UVA & UVB protection to defend against everyday sun exposure and premature aging.

Jergens even claims that the collagen & elastin formula firms skin, so in as little as seven days of daily use you’ll experience tighter, firmer skin with less noticeable cellulite and improved elasticity. Right now I’m happy with a slightly tanner face but if this body lotion helps firm skin, I will be bathing myself in it.

Teen Vogue, Allure, TotalBeauty.com, Seventeen, Brides Magazine, Glamour, and Self have all awarded this moisturizer the best self tanner! Check out the accolades here!
