Breaking the Rules with Labor Day White

In Fashion on September 4, 2009 at 3:01 pm

Winter White Wool Pants

As with many customs and etiquette dictums, it’s difficult to pin down the reason behind the prohibition against white after Labor Day. We searched on variations of “wear white after Labor Day” and sifted through the Etiquette and Fashion categories in the Yahoo! Directory. I managed to turn up a bit of information on the fashion dictate.

Originally, the rule was more along the lines of “Only wear white shoes between Memorial Day and Labor Day.” Furthermore, it mainly applied to white pumps or dress shoes. White tennis shoes and off-white boots seem exempt, as are any shoes worn by a winter bride. “Winter white” clothing (e.g., cream-colored wool) is acceptable between Labor Day and Memorial Day too.

With all these fashion rules and exemptions, we’ve decided that wearing white after Labor Day is TOTALLY FINE (within reason)! Pack up the white linen and forgo the frilly, white strapless dress BUT rock a pair of the Winter White wool pants or an eggshell white cocktail dress and you are looking fresh and stylish all fall and winter long!

Here are some white looks that you can totally rock after labor day!

There are times when words fail to capture pure emotion. Right now is one of the times…as I cannot seem to find the right words to express my excitement for the upcoming girl-tastic movie, Sex and The City 2! a simple YAY is almost an insult to the sheer joy and titillated anticipation that is humming in the air around me. I almost want to scream BONANZA just because. ;)

Carrie. Big. Miranda. FASHION. Manolo. Samantha. Charlotte. Wait did I mention FASHION. The first SnTC Movie was a glorified 2 hour technicolor scream of product placement and high heels!

The first pictures of the filming of Sex and the City 2 have popped up on the web and (to say the least) I am digging Carrie’s Gold kicks. Who could miss those those trademark red Louboutin soles (Pigalle pumps $1,040)?

Heres our low cost option to re-create this look:

White Dress – Cost: $138

Buy it: eDressMe

Gold Metallic Heels – Cost: $190

Buy It: Endless

Architectural Necklace – Cost: $14.80

Buy It: Forever21 (where else?)
